The Best Products to Stop Procrastinating

So you want to have a productive life, right? You probably have a list of goals or projects you want to accomplish.

However, you find there is one thing stopping you. It is procrastination. Even though you have the drive to accomplish so much, you can’t seem to get to it.

We live in a society where it says binge-watching and scrolling through social media constantly is a norm.

We have a lot of work to do and big goals we have set, yet we go do these other things instead.

You decide to watch your favorite show, just one episode. Then it finishes, you want to watch another and then another and then another… You realize it’s late and nothing got done. Now you feel even worse than you did before.

Sounds familiar?

Don’t worry if this is your situation. This is not just you. I’ve been there too. It made me feel so overwhelmed. Nothing was getting done and I wasn’t doing all that I knew I could do.

I was very frustrated with myself and kept praying about why I was in this situation.

Then I started to do some research and found productivity tips that I could implement right away. It helped me tremendously to become more productive in my lifestyle.

So don’t worry. You can also overcome your procrastination and be on your way to getting things done!

What is procrastination?

Procrastination comes from the Latin words which mean “for tomorrow” (“Pro” – for, “Cras” – tomorrow).

That is basically what procrastinators say: “It can wait for tomorrow,” “I can do it later.”

Not only that, but they do something else instead that may appear more interesting than what they actually had to do.

If you are a procrastinator yourself, you might embrace it. You may own the fact that you are a procrastinator and nothing else can change that. You say it is normal.

However, I bet since you came to this page, you don’t want to say that you are a procrastinator, but rather you really want to overcome it.

Why do we procrastinate?

Think about the last time you procrastinated. You were probably trying to avoid doing something. Perhaps it is to study for your exam. You didn’t want to do it so you decided to keep scrolling through social media instead which was more interesting and exciting.

Or maybe you procrastinated because the task seemed too hard – like a 20 page paper. Or perhaps you have loads of time to complete a project so you don’t need to focus on it now. You’d rather spend your time to watch the latest movie.

Perhaps you don’t have the drive to do what you are supposed to do – even though it’s one of the goals that you set up.

You are surprised that you don’t want to do it, even though it’s very important or it’s something that you made the goal to do.

There’s an expression: “tomorrow satan.” The “tomorrow satan” is the voice that always tells us to “do it tomorrow” (or “do it later”). Don’t do it now, but do it another time.

That voice in us isn’t saying to not do it at all, but it is saying to do it another time.

However, if we keep listening to that voice, then that goal and project still never gets done, since it’s getting pushed off until “tomorrow.” This is the voice that we need to overcome because then we won’t get all the things we want to do and truly be the person we want to be.

There are plenty of reasons why we procrastinate. If you really want to overcome procrastination, you should first identify why you do. Is it because of laziness? Lack of motivation? Fear? Identify why and then you’ll know better what to do to stop procrastinating.

We’ll have plenty of more blog posts about how to overcome this annoying habit in the future.

Planning Tools

You should first start planning. We will have more articles about planning in the future that will boost your productivity and help you stop procrastinating. Here is just a brief intro on why it is important to plan.

Planning gives you a clearer structure of what your progress, where you currently are, and where you are heading. It gives a clear visual presentation for you rather than just keeping all your goals, ideas, and plans inside your head.

Now here are some of the planning essentials that I suggest that you ought to get.

A NOTEBOOK

I highly suggest a dotted journal. This easily helps you make your journal the way you want it to be. I’ve been a note taker and planner since I can remember since I was in elementary school. When I started using dotted journals, it became so much easier to plan the way that is more effective for me. Lined notebooks were too structured while plain sketchbooks gave me too much of a blank canvas.

Dotted Journal

I recommend the Leuchtturm1917 Dotted Journal. I’ve used it. I love the numbered pages, space for the index in the front, and also a pocket in the back. The quality of the paper is also a big plus.

I used the official Bullet Journal. It’s a little pricier, but it gives some tips on bullet journaling.

(For more information about Bullet Journaling, you can check out the new best selling book from the creator of Bullet Journaling – Ryder Carroll.)

PENS

Pens are another key essential to planning. Some people use Steadler markers. I used these when I first started bullet journaling. The fine points allow you to take control of how you want to design your planner. Also, if you use a ruler, like I do daily, it helps with getting the lines exactly where you want them to be.

I also continuously use Z-grip pens. I love the way they write! I’ve also had some bad experiences with getting my Bullet Journals wet and the marker ink smearing everywhere so, for now, I’ve stuck with ink pens and pencils.

I recently went to Korea and found they have plenty of .3mm pens. I fell in love! It’s so hard to find them around here in my area of the U.S. If I can find a link for them, I will definitely put it up here.

BOOKS

Researching about productivity to help stop procrastinating is number one. Though you have all the right tools, yet if you don’t know how to use theme then there is a limit to how truly productive you can be.

One of my favorite, favorite books on productivity is Rest by Alex Soojung-Kim Park. I stumbled upon it when I was in Barnes & Noble one day, overwhelmed with my feeling of not getting anything done. This book was a great help for me to see what I was doing wrong in my life and what are some practical steps I can implement right a way to stop procrastinating and become productive.

What it basically says is that we need to rest more – which seems counterintuitive if you want to be productive. However, it shares how we ought to strategically rest which will actually help us to become more productive. Hope you also check it out!

How can I get motivated when I feel like procrastinating?

Another reason you procrastinate is that you don’t feel motivated. You don’t have enough motivation to get you started.

One tip to help you with this and overcome that procrastination is to make a challenge for yourself. For example, if you complete all your tasks for that day, then treat yourself to a nice iced matcha latte.
